Start with the currencies in the position
For EURUSD, review events tagged EUR and USD. For GBPJPY, review GBP and JPY. Gold is commonly quoted against USD, so USD releases can be relevant to XAUUSD even though the symbol is a metal rather than a currency pair.
Multi-select filters are useful when both sides of a pair need to remain visible at the same time.
Impact is a category, not a promise
A high-impact label indicates that an event is commonly associated with meaningful market attention. It does not guarantee high volatility. A lower-impact event can still matter, and an important release can produce little movement if the result is already expected.
- Confirm the calendar timezone.
- Select both currencies connected to the symbol.
- Review high- and medium-impact events during the planned holding period.
- Note events sharing the same release time.
- Decide how the trade plan handles abnormal spread or slippage.
Forecast and previous values need context
Forecast is generally a consensus estimate and previous is the earlier reported figure. Previous values can be revised. A result above forecast is not automatically bullish, and below forecast is not automatically bearish; positioning, revisions, subcomponents and central-bank expectations can all affect the reaction.
Why stops behave differently around releases
Liquidity can thin and spreads can widen immediately before or after a major announcement. Price may jump between available quotes. A stop-loss remains an instruction to close, not a guaranteed execution price, so the realized loss may be larger than the calculator's smooth-price estimate.
An alert before an event does not confirm that the schedule is unchanged. Release times can move and calendar values can be corrected. Recheck time-sensitive information when it matters to a live position.
Keep calendar and position-size decisions separate
The calendar helps identify when conditions may change. The position-size calculation determines estimated cash exposure at a chosen stop. Reducing size may reduce the amount exposed, but it cannot remove execution risk during a gap or fast market.
