The convention used by LotSizely

LotSizely treats a $0.10 movement in the XAUUSD price as one pip. A $1.00 movement is therefore 10 pips. If an MT5 gold quote displays three decimal places, the smallest 0.001 movement is one platform point, making 100 points equal to one $0.10 pip and 1,000 points equal to a $1.00 move.

$0.10 gold move = 1 pip = 100 platform points
$1.00 gold move = 10 pips = 1,000 platform points

The exact number of platform points depends on the number of digits used by the broker. That is why the calculator asks for pips and why the input must use the convention above.

What one gold pip is worth

VolumeValue of 1 pipLoss across 100 pips
1.00 lot$10.00$1,000
0.10 lot$1.00$100
0.01 lot$0.10$10

These values are the contract assumption used by the LotSizely calculator. Always compare them with the tick value and contract size supplied by the broker in MT5.

Measure the stop from price

Suppose an XAUUSD buy entry is 2,400.00 and the stop is 2,390.00. The price difference is $10.00. With the LotSizely convention, divide the price difference by $0.10.

$10.00 price distance ÷ $0.10 per pip = 100 pips

At 0.01 lot, 100 pips multiplied by $0.10 per pip produces an estimated $10 loss.

Why “100 pips” can be misunderstood

Some traders call every final displayed decimal a pip, while others use “point” for that smallest increment. A broker may also show two or three decimal places for gold. The label alone is not enough; the safe method is to convert the entry-to-stop price difference using a stated convention.

Common input mistake

If the price distance is $10 and you enter 1,000 because MT5 shows 1,000 points, LotSizely interprets that as 1,000 pips. The calculated lot size will be ten times smaller than intended. Convert platform points to the pips used here first.

Check the broker's symbol

Open the XAUUSD Specification in Market Watch and record Digits, Contract size, Tick size, Tick value, Minimal volume and Volume step. Suffixes such as XAUUSD+, XAUUSD.a or GOLD can represent a broker-specific symbol with different settings.

MetaTrader 5 explains that Digits, contract size, tick size and tick value are set in the broker's Symbol Specification.
